The Yorkminstrels Show Choir is a dynamic, mixed-voice choir, based in North York, serving the greater Toronto area. It is now the only active part of the group that was, for 50 years, the GTA's largest community musical theatre company - The Yorkminstrels.
The choir was founded in 1974 by several members of the theatre group. Their aim was to bring music into the community and reach new audiences. Over the years, choir membership has grown considerably. The repertoire is extensive, with costumes and choreography having been added to enhance the visual appeal of the concerts. Under the musical direction of Judy Scott Jacobs, The Yorkminstrels Show Choir now performs throughout the greater Toronto area, and would be delighted to sing for you!

Broadway show selections (from both modern and classic musicals), medleys featuring "golden oldies" from the 30's and 40's, contemporary popular music, folk songs, seasonal favourites, choreography and costumes. Concert material will vary according to the needs of your event.

The Show Choir Seeks Men
The Show Choir is seeking some new tenors, basses, and baritones. The choir allows its members to share the joy of music without the rigorous schedule of a stage show. Any men interested should send us an email with some contact details. You can come out to a rehearsal and see what we are all about, without any obligation. Pass this information on to any other men you think might be interested. Our email address and link is on our Contact Us page, or contact Sandi Horwitz at the number above.
Show Choir CD Available
For four weeks in May/June, 2003, The Yorkminstrels Show Choir spent their Wednesday evenings laying down tracks for a CD. The Director, Cliff Jones, guided them through the long and sometimes difficult process of recording the vocals to the pre-recorded piano tracks. Each of the sections — soprano, alto, tenor and bass — sang their vocal part separately, with the "three tenors" usually doubling up their tracks to make up for their small number. Liane Fainsinger, who expertly laid down the piano tracks in previous sessions, was able to add her voice to the women's parts. The guys at Number Nine Audio were great, making the process as easy as possible.
The CD of 15 lovely songs is available for purchase. Cost is $10 (plus mailing costs, if applicable). Please contact us.
